Clumsy attempt of director who wanted to become writer will tire many readers

Summary at the end of the novel should refer us to the work we commit to. Introduce us to one or two characters, their problems and possibly provide a hint of solution. Summary of the novel ‘Hanno tutti ragione’ gives the impression that in the hands reader holds an interesting and suspenseful story of Italian singer and entertainer Tony Pagoda. But what you are really holding in your hands is a clumsy attempt of director who wanted to become writer that will tire many readers and repel them from the novel, even long before the last page.Tony Pagoda is dissolute singer who loves cocaine, prostitutes and casual life. In Italy he enjoys the fame and money, but due to change of musical taste his popularity in the country will fall and in the search for personal identity he will move to Brazil.Sorrentino for this novel was nominated for the prestigious Italian literary prize Il Premio Strega and will surely find his audience, though more likely option is that it would still be a small audience.The novel, simply put, is talking about nothing. The truth is that Pagoda’s life is interesting and exotic, that the life stories of other characters are tangible and intriguing, and whole feel is extremely movie-like, but Sorrentino’s attempt of infiltration stream of consciousness in subject which doesn’t match with such a narrative style, resulted with a complete fiasco.In the novel, one can point out some interesting thoughts, but burdened with the rest of the nonsense work it would be difficult to be even spotted. For such things reader should carefully and patiently look through the novel, but not many readers will have will and patience. Generally speaking, to incorporate stream of consciousness a skillful writer is needed, and Sorrentino certainly is not a master of the craft.If we ignore the tedious monologues, Tony Pagoda is not so badly characterized character with whom reader can get close, even learn something about him. The other characters are in the shadow of his speeches, which is a great shame given that they are the biggest breath of fresh air in this work.Paolo Sorrentino is popular movie director, screenwriter, and more recently, a writer. For his movie ‘La grande bellezza’ he recently won the Oscar and though this is his debut novel, reader can only strongly hope that the next one will be much, much better.

Absolutes joy

It's in Italian of course, so it's not for everyone ;)The style of writing is superb, the story in engaging and if you know sorrentino you will be familiar with the characters too.I wish there are plenty more books like this one.Totally recommended, it's a mixed of emotions of all kind.
