Best modern Italian book ever!

Dear all, this is definitelly the best modern Italian book that I have read in the last 10 years.A captivating story full of interesting everyday characters, poetic thoughts and frequent flash backs that will keep you glued to the book and won't allow you close it until you have reached the very last page. **GO FOR IT!**

A Page-turner

A modern Italian novel that kept me interested to the last page. It's a good book for those, like me, who live abroad and want to keep in touch with modern Italian vocabulary, especially the colloquialisms that you don't find in a newspaper. I kept wondering what happens "in six months" in novel time but when I found out it took my breath away. Not an ending to be read late at night. I recommend it.

Ammaniti is great as usual

The book covers the lives of a number of characters in a small Tuscan town off a main road, the Aurelia but mainly the life of a young boy at school. Like other characters in Ammaniti's books, the boy is a bit of an outsider from a difficult family who has ambitions to get out of the environment in which he lives. He gets into trouble after being bullied into participating in some vandalism at the school and his life begins to unravel as this one action spirals into catastrophe.Ammaniti introduces us to a number of characters, fascinating in their own way, whose situations are exaggerated by the compressed and claustrophic small town environment. For a number of them, the book's ending is tragic and unexpected but in a way you do expect if of this author.
